The former Australian wicketkeeper, Adam Gilchrist, has hailed the Australian cricket team for bringing South Africa under pressure on the final day of the first test match which was played at Brisbane. The Australian bowlers bowled amazingly well in South Africa’s second innings and at one point of time, it seemed that there might be a result possible in that match. But, AB De Villiers and Vernon Philander saw off the day for their team and made sure that the first match of the series ended in the form of a draw.
Gilchrist looked very impressed with the all round performance of the Aussie team. The former wicket keeper said, “I am very impressed with the way the bowlers charged in on the last day. The match was clearly heading towards a draw, but, they made it interesting by bowling their heart out. All the bowlers went flat out and bowled with quite a lot of pace.”
“This kid Pattinson is a hugely talented bowler. Every time, he is given the ball, he runs in and tries to bowl quick, no matter what kind of surface he is bowling on. The pitch at Brisbane wasn’t assisting the pacemen that much, but, he didn’t get demoralized because of that. He decided to bend his back and that paid off for him.”
When asked about the performance of the Aussie skipper, Michael Clarke, who scored a double hundred in the match, Gili said, “Clarke has taken his game to a different level. He is on the way of becoming a great batsman. I just love watching him bat. He has got all the shots in the book.”
“The only problem that Clarke had in the past was that he wasn’t consistent enough. But, in the last couple of years, he has scored runs consistently.”
