Sunil Narine has performed brilliantly in the first test match against New Zealand at Antigua. He bowled well in both the innings and gave a vital contribution in the West Indies’ victory. He took a total of 8 wickets in the match and was named as the man of the match. None of the New Zealand batsmen was able to play him comfortably. Narine was playing in his second test match. He was not able to perform that well in his first test match against England, but, in this match, he showed that he could be a devastating baller in the test matches as well.
In the post match presentation ceremony, Narine said that the pitch was pretty flat and didn’t provide any help for the bowlers. The ball was not turning much. So, it was important to maintain a good line and length. As per Narine, he was expecting the pitch to assist the spinners on the fourth day and the fifth day, but, it didn’t happen. He said that a test match wicket should be a sporting one and should help the bowlers as well.
The West Indies captain Darren Sammy has praised Narine for his brilliant effort. He said that Narine never gives up and he is a great trier. Narine bowled 43 overs in the first inning and 42 overs in the second innings. As per Sammy, it is not easy to bowl so many overs, but, Narine was determined to win the test match for his country.
On being asked about the team’s performance, Sammy said that he is pretty happy with the performance of the opening pair. A good start is very important if you want to put up a big score on the board. Sammy also praised Kemar Roach and said that he is a terrific fast bowler who bowls his heart out even on flat pitches.
